Who should be considered for assisted hatching
Assisted hatching is a method in which a small incision in the zona pellucida is made to help the embryo “hatch” from its “shell.” A perforated zona pellucida is thought to boost the chances of the embryo hatching and implanting successfully.
According to the embryologists of Kiran Infertility Centre – Chennai, assisted hatching can be considered in patients under the following cases-
- Patients with a history of unsuccessful IVF/ICSI cycles
- Patients with particularly thick zona pellucida in their embryos
- Patients whose embryos are not developing as predicted
- Increased FSH throughout the menstrual cycle’s early follicular phase
- The embryo is surrounded by a thicker outer shell
- In cases where self-hatching is unlikely, poor embryo quality
