An ovarian follicle is a fluid-filled sac that holds an immature egg, or oocyte, in the female reproductive system’s ovaries. A mature egg is discharged from a follicle during ovulation.
Each cycle, many follicles begin to mature, but only one will develop as an egg. Antral follicles are follicles having a size that are between 2 and 10 mm in diameter. According to the embryologists of Kiran Infertility Centre – Chennai, primary ovarian insufficiency, often known as premature ovarian failure, is diagnosed in women under the age of 40 who have a very low antral follicle count.
As a woman gets older, her antral follicle count naturally decreases. Polycystic ovarian syndrome may be indicated by an abnormally high antral follicle count (PCOS)
