Some of these cells (the trophectoderm) help the baby implant into the uterus, while others (the inner cell mass) are the fetus’s first cells. When an embryo is transferred into the uterus at the blastocyst stage through blastocyst culture (in a lab), it has a better probability of implanting. The blastocyst is the stage of development that generally resides in the uterus and is ready to implant.
