Studies undertaken by the researchers at the University of Oxford revealed that more twins are being born around the globe in recent years. The research shows that 1.6 million twins are being born every year that is almost one in 40 children. The record number of births was found in non-identical twins that come from two separate fertilized eggs.
It is estimated that more than 1.6 million twins are being born every year that can be attributed to the rise of assisted reproductive technology or ART methods such as IVF and surrogacy in countries all over the world.
Lower overall fertility rates are also contributing to an increase in twin births as more and more couples opt for fertility treatments
