What is meant by transvaginal ultrasound and what is its purpose?

A transvaginal ultrasound, also called an endovaginal ultrasound, is a type of pelvic ultrasound used by gynecologists to examine female reproductive organs such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and cervix.
