The tissue lining the inside of the womb is known as endometrium. At the initial stage of pregnancy, embryo gets attached to the endometrium in a process called implantation. Endometrial scratching is a method to purposefully disrupt the endometrium in women who are willing to get pregnant at the beginning of the cycle. It is believed that this disruption will help in development of new blood vessels and thereby increasing the chances of embryo implanting and thus creating a pregnancy.
It is usually done on the second day of your period. Sometimes tissue from the endometrium is also collected to test for infections.
